Despite the recession, Rivervale CC YEC is hiring people to manage the computer room.

We are looking for school going kids or undergrads who lives around Blk 193 of Rivervale Drive. The person must show strong interest in IT and is able to commit on Tuesday and Thursday Night.

He needs to ensure that all users who uses the computer room are signed in and also to ensure that the room are clean at all times. Also he or she need to maintain the notice boards within the room.

I know this is YEC blog and I am not suppose to blog something that has a SLIGHTEST hint of political stuff, but then i cant help it.

Looks like there is nobody in this world is considered too charasmatic. Surely there will be people who don’t like you.

The launch is held along side with the ministerial community visit. Dr Yaccob Ibrahim came to the Rivervale community center has saw two of our brave YEC members do repelling from the 7th story of the HDB flat that unveiled the logo of the interest group.

Below is the YEC workplan for the year 2009:

There are 3 representatives in the YEC; me, chris and haresh. The Advisor joked that later we can tie Simon (CCMC chairman) to a tree during the afternoon session of paintball (some people actually call that game “pain ball”) and keep shooting him. There is also a joke that only he needs insurance and validation form for that event.

Actually Simon is pretty plumb, and shooting him won’t work because all the shots will bounce back to us so we are glad that the paint ball aka pain ball session was cancelled because of the constant rain. We switched to bowling at Yishun SAFRA instead. We worked with Yati so that we can manuplate the drawing lots and the three YEC “Musketters” remain in the same group for the bowling session. Too bad we are not good enough to win the top prize, as none of us could not clock a single session that hits 3 digits.

Overall the CCMC retreat is useful, and I am glad that our work plan for Year 2009 has been approved. I am hopeful that next year will be a good year for us.

We first started from the top of the hill in the mount faber part, then we proceed to the Telok Blangah Hill and reach to the henderson waves. From there we walk to the forest walk and then finally reached to the hort park. That whole journey took 2 hours

After that the group goes shopping in vivo city. and the whole event ends at 1:30pm. Nothing dramatic happen, just the desire to see SCEC bond with the YEC people, and families creating a strong bond within each other. It will be a crucial bond as we will be looking into working together with the SCEC to organise IT courses for the elderly people, to upgrade their skills in the light of the current financial crisis.

IT has in many ways change the social landscape of the country. One has to look at how Obama use IT to raise funds for his campaign and reach out to voters. It is truly breath taking that the most unlikely candidate can be the president of United States based on merit. That is social impact. Obama uses IT to reach out to a wide array of voters with different background, identify himself with them and win their votes. In China, Gong Li acceptance as a Singaporean Citizen was widely debated online.

With IT, news spread at the speed of lighting, and it does change the society outlook. I believe that with the PA creation of the new media champions (NMC) it will be a quiet revolution taking place and Social Services IT will be an in-dept study topic in universities worldwide

When I installed the VMware, it request that it needs IIS, so i go ahead with it (surprising that installing vmware on windows OS need IIS whereas it is needless on linux). During the installation it hang like at least 3 times, and given that my laptop is the Asus F8Series with 4GB ram, it still hangs.

That is not all. when i create the virtual machine, it took around 15 minutes. The worse is when I click on the “start the virtual machine” hyperlink, my whole computer stop working for 20 minutes. I cant do a single thing, not even a Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I was contemplating restarting the whole thing when the laptop runs again.

Whereas in ubuntu it is a different story. I installed vmware and run windows enterprise 2003 server. It goes smoothly! I can even open a firefox browsers with an additional of 3 tabs. So if someone ask me why the adoption of Vista OS is so slow, perhaps microsoft should look at themselves.

In the 21st century, having good speed is an important key in enterprise execution. The resource guggling Vista OS is just simply crazy to think about, on top of that use an equally resource consuming VMware. No PC configuration so far can allow both to run smoothly.

I will work on different kinds of configuration and will let the audience know what are the possibilities a VMware can offer. In the meantime stay tune to this blog
